The Man Behind the Memoir
Meet Sterling Elliott Blake
Early Life
Sterling Elliott Blake was born on June 22, 1961, in Long Beach, California. The hardest part of his childhood took place during the late 1960s, on into the 1970s. Raised by a mother who was part of the hippie movement and a father who struggled with intense anger, Sterling faced hardship, violence, and neglect from a very young age. At seven years old, his mother introduced him to marijuana. He lived through experiences that no child should have to endure.
Overcoming the Odds
At nine years old, while in the Albert Sitton Home, a counselor told him he had no future and would likely end up in prison. Sterling refused to accept that prediction. He chose to keep going and create a different life for himself.
Education and Accomplishments
Through persistent effort, Sterling earned a Master of Business Administration degree. He also received two Bachelor’s degrees: one in Electronic Engineering and one in Electronic Engineering Technology. In addition, he completed three Associate degrees in Electronic Engineering and Robotic Technology, Electronics and Computer Science, and General Studies. He also achieved the rank of Master in the traditional martial art of Kung Fu San Soo, also known as Tsoi Li Fut.
Career and Family
Sterling worked for many years within Aerospace and Defense manufacturing as a Quality and Process Engineer and is now semi-retired. He is the author of two unpublished children’s story manuscripts. Above all, he dedicated himself to being a father. Even after the deep loss of both his sons, he remains a steady and loving presence for his daughter, who knows him as Papa.
Faith and Outlook
Grounded in his Christian faith, Sterling views himself as an ordinary man who continues to wake up each day and make the choice to live honestly, do what is right, and move forward no matter the difficulties.
